Granite trends - gaining popularity in the home!

Granite being a durable material as well as undoubtedly beautiful makes it an ideal product with which to furnish your home. Its stain resistance, heat resistance and scratch resistance make it an excellent choice for a variety of situations within the home from kitchen and bathroom worktops to floors and even garden tables!

Granite has become more popular than ever in the last few years. It is being specified by architects and designers in hotels and in new build developments. It’s ever increasing popularity is not only due to its durability but also due to the array of colours and patterns available. The most exciting thing, of course, is the individuality that comes with using a natural stone.

Current Trends

In the past few years mainly plain black granites have been the most popular with other blacks and very dark granites making up the majority of granite sold in the UK. This has coincided with the popularity of lighter wood kitchens like birch and maple becoming more popular. The plain black also looks great with high gloss white doors and chrome door furniture for a really sleek contemporary look.

Black Granites remain perennial favourites but recently we have seen a lean towards more patterned granites with people really seeking something with individuality and “wow” factor. Baltic or Tan Browns with their large “flowers” in the granite have just that – they look great with real wood but also with the extremely popular “cappuccino” and “latte” style kitchens.  Now with the advent of dark wood cabinet doors a lot of people are choosing light colours for example Kashmir White granite, which has a striating pattern of winter white and grey with dark red/ brown spots, is a stunning compliment to warm cherry wood doors.

Availability

Due to its quality and splendour combined with the way it has been traditionally sold in the UK, granite has been the expensive option which has made it a luxury beyond the reach of most of us. Now however with it’s ever increasing popularity and more competition in the industry there are a lot more options for the consumer. One option to be considered is to buy direct from a company importing pre-cut work top slabs. This way you are cutting out the middle men and a lot of the expensive machining is done abroad.
