Silestone Blanco City Quartz Worktops Fitted Ashford, Middlesex
Miss N of Ashford, Middlesex, was renovating a property prior to selling it. She wanted a clean, contemporary and warm look for the kitchen, and chose off-white/cream units with sleek chrome handles. For the worktops she chose Silestone Blanco City, one of our most economical engineered stones, and one of our most practical, with its fine granulation and warm cream tone being easy to maintain and complementing a wide variety of kitchen units and styles.
The quartz was installed at 20mm thickness; the thinner worktop look is often chosen with very modern styled units, especially where handless doors have been chosen, and it is more economical than the standard 30mm. For this particular installation Miss N saved around £300 by going for the thinner material, being some 10% of what would have been the total order value.
THE FINER DETAILS
Blanco City - Bright, Clean, Practical
Blanco City is, as its name implies, an off-white, but has a significant level of darker granulation that tips the overall colour towards cream. The granular texture makes it far easier to keep looking clean than a pure-colour material.
Hob & Splashback
The Bosch hob and matching oven and extractor are flanked by 800mm wall-mounted display units with internal lighting. A full height quartz splashback has been fitted behind the hob.
20mm Peninsular
The overhang on the peninsular is greater than standard but is not a full breakfast bar. The corners have been finished with 20mm radius curves.
Standard upstands
Standard 100mm height upstands have been fitted throughout, including around the pier at the base of the peninsular.
Sink Layout
The sink is a contemporary square one-and-a-half bowl undermount in stainless steel. Note that the cutout corners have to be still slightly curved. Very square sinks are hard to keep looking clean in the corners.

Upstand join detail
Detail of joins between upstands and worktop. With quartz worktops we generally use a colour-matched silicon that is close to the general tone of the stone.
One piece hob run
Despite the size of the hob, the thin material at 20mm and the length of the run, at nearly 3 metres, the great tensile strength of the Silestone quartz worktop has allowed manufacture in one piece.
