One of the benefits of the new CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machine in ouer workshop is that we can cut and polish various shapes and curves far more easily. Up to now a lot of this kind of work has been done by hand-held power tools, and our craftsmen have had to take very significant time over half and full circles. This has meant that we have often told customers that it simply isn’t feasible to provide circular items.
This has now changed. With the new CNC we are able to do this kind of work economically. Here are some images of a 1100mm tabletop made from 30mm thick Black Galaxy granite, made for Mr and Mrs D, neighbours of ours here in Charlwood village. They used a classic Singer sewing machine stand, which needed a little additional bracing to handle the weight of the granite – around 90kg at this size. The result is stunning – compact and pleasing and the family are over the moon with their table.
Even their dog seems to approve!
