Dorking is one of the nearest towns to Charlwood, where our granite worktop factory is located. One of the pleasant towns within easy reach of London, Dorking started life as a staging point on the main Roman Road to the port of Chichester – Stane Street. It was the Romans who introduced the breed of chicken which came to be known as the Dorking Fowl – a five clawed variety, amongst Britain’s oldest breeds.
Other claims to fame include the UK’s largest vineyard, at Denbies, and the beauties of Leith Hill and Box Hill and the whole chain of the Surrey Hills. Perhaps more surprisingly, Dorking was also the venue for the recording of Ebony and Ivory, Paul McCartney’s hit with Stevie Wonder.
