Merry Christmas! The AG Christmas Card and Letter 2023
And so we come to the end of 2023. Thank you for your business over the last year. It has been a challenging year, but has ended well here at Affordable Granite. We hope it is ending well for you too.
Inflation and the threat of recession has made our market very demanding over 2023. As a kitchen worktop firm geared to doing bespoke, single-kitchen, work for individual customers, we have felt the squeeze. Other members of the Worktop Fabricators Federation who work more with multiple units, new builds and so on, had a slightly easier ride.
However, we have come through the year in good shape. We have lost no members of staff due to these pressures. We are still here and feel we are actually in a strong position as we head into 2024. We have continued to invest in new and better equipment in the workshop and on the vans – the big news of 2023 being our waterjet which has transformed our capacity to cut more challenging shapes and materials.
The waterjet arrived at just the right moment to help us handle some of the latest trends in stone for kitchen worktops. In 2023 we have cut more ceramic-type materials (Sapienstone, Laminam, Dekton etc) and more real marble and quartzite than in any previous year.  Very hard materials with natural patterns are coming in again, and with them come design, production and installation challenges which are quite different to the quartz which still dominates. Working with these different stones demands experience, something that our team has a lot of! Affordable Granite can provide appropriate advice, and has the proper equipment to cut and install them with confidence.
In any group of people a year will bring its share of personal joys and sorrows. Being a stable team over the years nurtures friendships with colleagues in which those joys and sorrows are, to some extent, shared. In 2023 one of our workshop team lost his mother – far too young and to a shocking illness. In the light of that, our charity donation this year (in lieu of sending physical Christmas cards) is to Pancreatic Cancer UK.
This year we will be closed for Christmas from midday on 22 Dec until 9.00 am on 3rd January.
