HOW LONG DO TEMPLATING AND FITTING TAKE?

We are so often asked about timing for our granite and quartz worktop installations. Most often, people ask about templating and fitting.

How long is a piece of string?! It really depends on the size of the kitchen and if other rooms/spaces are involved. But typically, between 45 and 90 minutes. Longer times tend to involve multi-room installations, so for a typical British home, expect our templater to be with you for an hour or so.

We know that the wait between template and fit can be frustrating. That is especially so if you are just changing worktops, not having a new kitchen. In that situation, our work is responsible for the entire time you are without a working kitchen.

Our old rule of thumb was a working week – we are one of the fastest firms out there for turn-around. Sometimes we manage to do significantly better even than that – and we really try to when we are dealing with a worktop exchange in a small kitchen.

But large or complex installations, especially involving full-height splashbacks, bookmatching, mitred joins or special edge profiles, may need more workshop time. We try to keep customers fully and honestly informed throughout the process, so that there are no unrealistic expectations regarding time.

Once again, it all depends. But if you take it that a trained pair of fitters can install granite worktops in two small/medium-sized kitchens in a day, then we would normally say that it takes a morning or an afternoon.

Very large installations take longer, of course. Just occasionally we install in a home which requires two teams for a whole day, and sometimes even longer. We will do our best to give a good estimate of how long your worktops installation will take.

Once the worktops are in, things are more or less done. However, we are not plumbers, so gas, electric and water connections will need to be completed before you can use the kitchen. This is where there can be a temptation to try and hurry things. Please let the silicone and other resins and fillers go off for 24 hours before plumbing the sink in! Hurrying that step can do damage to your new kitchen.

The time between template and fit is quite quick – but we keep it that way by getting our ducks in a row with orders. We like to take orders around four weeks in advance, so if you are planning to order your granite or quartz kitchen worktops from us, please do so early on. Probably the best time is as soon as you have your definite kitchen order in. The more notice we have, especially if any special stones or edge profiles are involved, the better we can serve you with your new worktops.
