After many years selling granite worktops, then adding in quartz worktops, Affordable Granite now offers a third “solid stone worktop” alternative: ceramic materials. We have fewer of them than in our granite and quartz ranges, and they are concentrated at the higher end, in terms of our Price Bands.  We hope, with time, to expand the ceramic worktops range – watch this space!

We have been working with ceramic/sintered particle materials on a bespoke basis ever since they entered the market. Dekton from Cosentino was one of the first off the blocks, and had a lot of teething troubles, to be honest. Dekton has improved, but the brittleness which is a downside of ceramic materials’ hardness and stain resistance does need to be taken into account in evaluating what is best for your kitchen. We tend to warn people to avoid impacts on their ceramic worktops and, perhaps as a result, have had very, very few occasions where we have needed to replace broken tops.
