Mix Granite & Quartz Worktops for modern kitchen trend - Tadworth Surrey

One of the trends we have seen over the last year or so has been an interest in mixing contrasting worktops, particularly for islands and main worktops. Mr and Mrs J of Tadworth, Surrey bought Dove Grey units from Kit Stone’s Suffolk Painted range. After visiting our workshop they chose deep black Nero Assoluto granite for the worktop run along their long kitchen wall, and sparkly white Lapland quartz from Cimstone for their island. We think the contrast is stunning, and Mr and Mrs J seem pleased too.

They were kind enough to write to us...

“I was thoroughly impressed with the service I received from Affordable Granite from start to finish. Andrew King provided helpful and practical guidance regarding the choice of worktop, while Wayne (who was responsible for our templating) came up with the perfect solution for the shape of the overhang on our island. All in all, Affordable Granite provided us with great worktops and professional installation at a very reasonable price. I’m delighted with the end product and I have recommended them to many of my friends”

THE FINER DETAILS

Best-Of-Both-Worlds
Rangemaster

Dividing the two sections of the granite worktop run, the Rangemaster cooker features an induction hob – a relatively new innovation which we have seen in several recent kitchens where we have fitted solid stone worktops. The fridge freezer is by Fisher and Paykel.

Drainage Grooves

Classic parallel drainage grooves in the Nero Assoluto granite worktop. The grooves never drain brilliantly, but mark out the sink area aesthetically, and stop warm cups and glasses from “hovercrafting” off the gleaming worktop. Sink Franke; tap Abode.

Classic Black Granite

The glossy black and slight charcoal grey speckle of Nero Assoluto granite worktops always coordinate well with black range cookers and stainless steel kitchen furniture.

Contemporary White Mirror Quartz

The mirror sparkle of Lapland quartz worktops (or other similar products, such as the Quantra Polar, which we now stock) keeps the kitchen light and coordinates well with stainless steel furniture and fittings.

Breakfast Bar Overhang Detail

The breakfast bar is curved right along its length, but the curve only begins after significant overhang from the units. This means that leg room is good across the whole width while keeping the look of a fully curved worktop.

Window Upstand Detail

The windowsill is lower than our standard upstands, but higher than the worktop. A cut-down upstand has been fitted beneath it and our fitters have run short upstands back into the window reveal.
