Black Galaxy Granite Worktops in South Croydon

The CR2 postcode area of South Croydon is a regular port of call for our vans. The leafy avenues of Purley Oaks and Sanderstead have many excellent older homes whose owners want their kitchens to reflect the quality of the house.

Our customer Mr D chose Shaker-style units in Ivory from his kitchen company. Doors have classic D-shape handles in a brushed yellow gold. With a glossy black Rangemaster Classic cooker and Fridge-Freezer, black and chrome/steel also form a significant element in the design. Finally, a soft green was chosen for the walls.

Black Galaxy is (and has always been) one of our stock granite worktop stones. Consistently hard-wearing and beautiful, the Indian granite continues to sell, even in a time when white quartz is so dominant.

It was a privilege to install granite worktops for Mr D. He had had a stressful time with other aspects of the works on his home. As worktop installation is one of the last jobs to be done in a kitchen, it is always good when we can leave a satisfied customer. He wrote to Naomi, head of our sales team:

“Dear Naomi, After a difficult time having my kitchen fitted, it was a real pleasure to have your men installing my granite this morning. The overall improvement was immediate & the effect stunning. The complete experience, from choosing the granite and visiting your workshop to the final fitting has been both easy and pleasurable. Thank you.” – Mr Denneny, Sanderstead/South Croydon, Surrey

THE FINER DETAILS

Cream, Green and Gold

With cream units, green walls and gold handles, the kitchen has a classic but fresh look. Holding all of this together, with gold flecks in a black background, Black Galaxy Granite was the perfect choice for the worktops.

Rangemaster in black

Black polished worktops remain popular. The way the top continues the bold black of the range and splashback is a strong coordinating element of this kitchen.

Two sinks, separate cutouts

Very square undermounted sinks are highly contemporary, although in practice can be problematic for cleaning into the corners. Our cutouts always have slight radius curves at the corner. Here the smaller, half-bowl sink has a waste-disposal unit attached.

Extra taps for greater flexibility

Alongside the swan-neck monobloc hot and cold tap, a filtered drinking water tap was fitted.

Drainage Grooves

We manufacture parallel drainer grooves for most of our undermount sink installations. Some customers prefer splayed grooves for aesthetic reasons: the cost is a little higher as each groove has to be machined separately, but the result is striking.

Granite sill and upstand

It is worth considering granite on the windowsill to match the worktops. If you have a granite sill, make sure that the upstand comes right up to meet the sill – unless the gap is really enormous. This looks good and is very practical when it comes to wiping down the surfaces. Where the sill is more than 100mm (standard upstand height) above the worktops, there are two options: to go for a bespoke upstand height all the way round the kitchen, or to have an extra height upstand only under the sill, as here. In this case a high upstand all round would have hit all the power sockets.
