Maidstone is the county town of Kent and is situated on the River Medway about 32 miles southeast of London. It sits in the heart of the picturesque Kent countryside. The area has a rich history dating back to ancient times. Maidstone’s name is derived from the Old English term “Maeides stān,” meaning “stone of the maidens.” The town grew as a market and administrative center during the medieval period.

Maidstone has good transportation links, with easy access to the M20 motorway, connecting it to London and the Channel Tunnel. Maidstone also has two railway stations, Maidstone East and Maidstone West, providing connections to London and other towns in Kent.

The town hosts various events throughout the year, including the Maidstone Fringe Festival, the Maidstone River Festival, and the Maidstone Mela, a celebration of South Asian culture.

Maidstone is perhaps the first inland town in Kent where the house prices start to ease off a bit; it is easier to live here than in Sevenoaks, Bromley or Orpington!
