Terra Bianca Granite Worktops - West Clandon, Surrey
A spacious country home in the village of West Clandon, Surrey, with a long room comprising the kitchen and dining area opening onto a large garden at rear. Off the kitchen are the pantry and utility room.
The project was in collaboration with Nick Geard Furniture, our friend and neighbour on John Lory Farm. Nick’s fine bespoke joinery and meticulous attention to detail always make us proud to supply granite worktops for his kitchens.
We supplied Terra Bianca Granite for the kitchen, pantry and utility rooms, and Baltic Brown Granite for the downstairs cloakroom.
Granite Worktops West Clandon - The Raw Material
Terra Bianca Granite is (like so many other stones in our industry) not a granite at all. It is sometimes described as a “hard marble” or a Dolomite. It is effectively a marble which has undergone a chemical transformation rendering it harder and more resistant to acid attack.
Terra Bianca varies quite a lot in colour, and we have bought slabs with both dominant red hues and far cooler greenish blue slabs. It is a stone which demands customer involvement in the selection – you will want to set eyes on the actual slabs which will become your kitchen worktops!
Not surprisingly for a very varied stone, Terra Bianca has a number of names in the market – Fantasy Brown and Aurora Fantasy among others.
Granite Worktops West Clandon - The Kitchen
Nick Geard’s design for the kitchen emphasises practicality and beauty with a tight sink/cooker/fridge triangle set in bespoke units which emphasise curved forms. The trend to complementary colours is seen in the rich blue units for the island and the soft grey for the remainder of the kitchen, pantry and utility spaces.
As one would expect from a Geard kitchen, the doors are in-frame and hanging, closing and levelling is exemplary throughout. Handles are neat metal T-bars. Appliances are by Miele.

Lush Curves
Stunningly curved Terra Bianca island complements Nick’s bespoke curved units.
Island Power
The S-Box provides power to the island without making a fuss – practically invisible, in fact, when not in the raised position.
Kitchen Sink
Twin-bowl undermount by Blanco with Quooker tap – and the view of that garden makes washing up a pleasure!
And More Power...
Power is available beneath the island top too – rectangular socket in the woodwork.
Terra Bianca - Versatile Beauty
As a photographer I found it very difficult to show the Terra Bianca granite as one consistent colour tone. As the light shifted and changed in the room through the morning, so the granite showed many kinds of beauty.
Splashback
Terra Bianca Granite was also used for the hob splashback, as well as upstands throughout the kitchen and adjoining pantry and utility rooms.
Emphasising the curves...
We templated the beautiful units to create an island and wall runs that follow the curves.
I love that “hidden door” larder unit.
Short run opposite the island
Curves on the short worktop run, opposite the island.
Pantry Sink
The pantry also features a double undermount – though here it’s a ZenDuo pair from the 1810 Company – the extra deep 550/340.
Utility room
The utility room has a short run with a Belfast sink.
Upstand and windowsill
As always with highly patterned natural stones, we do all we can to ensure a smooth flow of the vein from worktop to upstand to windowsill. For more on vein-matching and it’s relation book-matching, see here.
Cloakroom
An addition to the kitchen was this neat vanity top in the downstairs cloakroom – made with an offcut of Baltic Brown Granite which perfectly matched the decor of the room.
Writing at the end of 2024, I can say that this installation was one of the biggest and best in the year. Here is a superb natural stone fitted in a characterful and beautifully crafted kitchen. Working with Nick Geard is always a pleasure, and Mr and Mrs R’s joy in their finished kitchen gave us a great sense of satisfaction. A good job, well done!
