Silver Cloud Granite Worktops Installed West Clandon Surrey

Another good example of a worktop installation in a bespoke natural stone: Mrs F of West Clandon chose Silver Cloud granite from our friends at Gerald Culliford in Kingston. This lively grey stone is relatively light compared to many natural greys, with a strong but delicate patterning.

The kitchen is by Derrywood Kitchens of Redhill. The tall and wall units are in their own Ivory finish, with the darker units and doors being bespoke painted with Railings by Farrow and Ball. The two-tone look, on either units or the worktops, is establishing itself as a standard of kitchen design.

Mrs F was kind enough to send us these pictures together with this testimonial: “We wanted a granite that would blend the base and top unit colours of our kitchen together and Affordable Granite kindly pointed us in the right direction and fitted the ‘Silver Cloud’ that we fell in love with beautifully! Their service and professionalism were outstanding and we would not hesitate to recommend them. The granite made our kitchen come alive thanks guys”

THE FINER DETAILS

Sink Breakfront

Breakfronts are relatively unusual at a sink; they are more often found at hobs. The units come forward with extra-depth worktop to either side, making a striking feature in the kitchen. They often have polished internal corners in the stone, although in this case there is a join to each side.

Curved Peninsular Breakfast Bar

The two curves with a straight section make for a good-looking peninsular without being wasteful of material or unduly reducing the useable size of the breakfast bar.  Easier on your hips if you walk into a corner, too!

Splashback in Granite

The splashback running right up to the extractor fan has become a popular feature, especially in the lighter-coloured stones where a big vertical panel doesn’t dominate the room as much as a black or other dark stone.

Sink and Tap Layout

The two sinks (single and half bowl) are in separate cutouts. Although this arrangement is more expensive in labour than a single cutout, many customers like the look of the granite strip between the sinks. (Franke Largo and Ariane sinks, Ideal Standard tap, Abode hand spray.)

Bespoke Granite Upstand

The windowsill has been made in granite, with a bespoke upstand at just this point as it is higher than the standard 100mm. It can be seen that joins in the work top, though visible with a patterned stone, are not as obvious or off-putting as they can be with a very strong large-scale pattern.

The Right Shade of Grey

With grey very popular in kitchens at the moment, the light grey of Silver Cloud works perfectly with the darker grey units in Railings and metal handles of this two-tone kitchen.

One Worktop Colour -
Two Unit Colours

Curved 300mm corner units are not cheap, but do look spectacularly good under a peninsular. This granite comes to us fairly smooth on the underside, which has not had any additional polishing. The contrast between the two different paint finishes can be clearly seen in this shot.

Silver Cloud Granite

The cool monochrome of Silver Cloud sets off coloured elements in the room. Although a bespoke colour, Silver Cloud Granite is by no means the most expensive out there, and provides a distinct and different look.
