Two of the natural stones for granite worktops which never seem to stop selling are Blue Pearl and Emerald Pearl. These Scandinavian classics (from quarries in Norway and Finland) may never be our biggest sellers, but they are among our most steady. One reason for that is that they are amazingly bomb-proof in terms of strength and stain resistance.

One of the most frequent comments we hear from new customers is that they want quartz because “granite worktops stain”. There is a lot of misinformation out there about granite and quartz, and this really is misleading. It springs in part from the variety of different rocks that are sold as “granite” in our industry, and that is unfortunate. All of our black natural stones are highly stain resistant, as are Steel Grey and these two. Blue Pearl is amongst the lightest coloured natural stones which is still almost impossible to stain beneath the surface.

You only have to cast your mind back to a walk in any big European city to realise how many buildings are clad in either Blue or Emerald Pearl – these stones are good for years in outdoor use, with acid rain, oil and grit and all the other hazards of city life thrown at them. They are as good looking as they are tough – and they stay that way for years.
