Granite Worktop Fitters Dave and Ash Boxing for Cancer Research

Some time ago I wrote about Dave and his Obstacle Running in aid of The National Deaf Children’s Society. (See here.) Having enjoyed the training, acquitted himself well on the day, and made a lot of money for a good cause, he moved on to the next challenge – boxing!

A charity boxing match is a regular fixture at the Copthorne Hotel, Effingham Park. (As it happens, we had our company Christmas dinner there last year.) A great venue, with the wonderful round dining area that can seat well over 300 turned into a perfect arena for the boxing ring.

Boxing events are organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing, which offers 8 weeks free training leading to bouts in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Dave is from the Horsham area, and is one of our most experienced granite worktop fitters. Despite the fact that his daily work involves carrying slabs of stone that would make most people faint, he has really benefited from the training for running and boxing. And he loves a challenge – and doing something worthwhile.

With him this time was his teammate Ashley. These guys work together as granite worktop fitters week in and week out. Apparently they don’t mind each other’s company, as they committed to the rigorous training programme together for this event. Their just giving page is here.

The training all came together last Saturday, 2nd June. Dozens of wanna-be Rockies gathered at the hotel, with trainers, friends, colleagues and family members. Affordable Granite took tables for ten people for the spectacle.

Unfortunately, and really, really disappointingly, Ash was found to have raised blood pressure before the fight, and was not allowed to continue. He was gutted. Dave took Ash’s tee-shirt into the ring for his bout. Nuff said.
