Going Green…

What does the colour green say to you? It seems to have so many resonances for different people. From being jealous  to reducing your carbon footprint, the green idea keeps popping up. Green may be very positive; green may be very negative; but green is ALWAYS a strong statement.

Green is a colour which we associate with plants and sunlight much more than we do with stone. And it is true that there are far more rock types that have grey, black or brown tones than green. All the same, there are naturally occurring green stones. Once you add in the man-made products which can include artificial dyes, the range of possible colours is huge.

Emerald Pearl Granite

First on the list of green stones we actually sell must be the Emerald Pearl Granite – a Scandinavian stone which has been a steadily popular material for building cladding and kitchen worktops for many years. Good looking, hard wearing and classy, it is hard to beat. We hold it in stock. For more on Emerald Pearl, see here.

Among recent quartz materials, Wentwood by Cambria offers sage green and cream patterns with a hint of sparkle. We have seen a lot of customers recently installing Cambria stones because of the blend of a natural and man-made look. Really effective materials, lovely for us to work with, lovely in your home! For more on the Cambria range, see our blog piece here.

We understand that Cambria Wentwood has been chosen as a regular option for worktops in the galleys of Sunseeker Yachts. We can understand the choice: a refined, high-end product with colour tones that blend well with sea, sky and quality furnishings on board.

Rather more brash on the engineered stone front is Starlight Green from Technistone. We recently installed a kitchen with worktops in this lively material.

Looking again at rather more exotic natural stones, there are other green-tinged granites available too. Here are three that we have installed:

Verde Savanna: Subtle grey to green with soft patterning

Verde San Francisco: Rich and dark with wild patterns of dark sage green

Terra Bianco: This lovely light coloured stone has wild patterning and greenish tones in the darker parts

Green worktops may not be for everyone, but they can bring a natural freshness to a kitchen. Time to think different? Go green!
