Marble Splashback – Granite Worktops

This year, for the first time, we have installed several kitchens with a mix of different stones for marble splashback and worktop. We thought that we would update our showroom display to reflect what we see as a significant trend.

Novaestone Calacatta Bianco Grigio is a mouthful to say and worse to type. But it is probably the most economical quartz so far to have the “big-veined marble look”. No big-veined look quartz is perfect, nor as affordable as a granular or sparkly quartz, but we think that this material is great value for money, for worktops or  splashbacks.

Combining a light-coloured marble-look splashback with a dark natural stone may seem counter-intuitive, but more and more people are asking us for just this. And it seems to work! Here the veins of the Calacatta Bianco Grigio faux marble splashback are reflected in the Steel Grey granite worktop.

We have changed all the stone in our corner display except for the Steel Grey Granite worktop. Steel Grey continues to be a steady seller, and it is one of those products we sell with total confidence – strong, non-porous, hard, smart, goes with so many kitchen styles, and with enough pattern to make it easy to live with – we love Steel Grey Granite! Check out a case study of a full installation here.

Of course, an alternative to marble-look quartz is… real marble! We have installed a number of splashbacks in the real thing this year – although it is not our specialism, we can handle it. This lovely slab of Ashburton went in as a feature dark marble splashback over lighter-coloured granite worktops.

Though not marble specialists, we have occasionally bought marble in for splashbacks or sills as part of a job with quartz or granite worktops. If you are looking for a genuine marble splashback on its own, without a full set of kitchen worktops, you will find more choice in specialist marble companies. But for an off-cut of marble-look quartz, we are at your service. Every year we make up many small jobs using our offcuts, at a phenomenally affordable price.

Not just a Marble Splashback but a New Granite Worktop

The other change to our showroom is that we have swapped out the Black Galaxy Granite worktop and put in a Cosentino Sensa Moak Black Granite run, with standard 100mm upstands.

There is something sensual and stunning about the texture of the Moak Black Granite. Being a Sensa material, it is sealed as well as textured – an important consideration given that many non-polished granites can be quite tricky to keep clean.

We offer Sensa Moak Black in our Premium Plus price band, and you can read more about it here.

For full information about the Sensa range, see the Cosentino Sensa site.  Not all the stones are stocked by Affordable Granite, but all can be bought in for you on a  bespoke basis.
