MAKALU SILVER: OUR MOST ON TREND CONTEMPORARY QUARTZ

Makalu Silver from Radianz

In our last change to our stock range of quartz materials, we included several Radianz products for the first time. Radianz used to be owned by the mighty Samsung; it was actually the South Korean government who mandated a shifting of companies and brands in the huge Asian materials market. The products come from the same factories, carry the same names, and still have all the flair and technological excellence that you would associate with one of the greatest brands on the planet.

One of our new products is Radianz Makalu Silver. If quartz worktop demand falls into the “I want traditional-marble” and “I want contemporary-sleek”categories, this excellent stone falls firmly into the second camp. For us it ticks five key boxes:

  • TICK BOX ONE It is grey. We feel a bit Henry Ford “you can have any colour you like, so long as its…” grey at the moment. And especially light grey. Contrasts are subtle – people want a light grey that goes on either dark grey or white units. Or a light grey that goes on BOTH dark grey/black and white units, perhaps with a contrasting island and wall sections.
  • TICK BOX TWO It is fine-grained. People have found that super-smooth quartz is very hard work to look after. You need some texture or every grain of dust will cry out far too loudly. And yet people don’t want big chunky grains. The fine texture and subtlety of Makalu Silver hits the spot.
  • TICK BOX THREE It is subtly sparkly. People like sparkle, but the big scale bling of the large-grain mirror quartzes is starting to wane in popularity. We have noticed for a while that interest has been growing in “subtle sparkle”. Some products seem to be almost TOO subtle; in our opinion, Makalu Silver has it just right.
  • TICK BOX FOUR It is a quality stone. As the quartz market has grown and diversified, it is hardly surprising that there are a lot of companies with some less than brilliant production facilities trying to get a slice of the pie. Radianz are not in that bracket. This stuff is beautiful and tough and comes with great after-sales back up. We buy Radianz Makalu Silver from our friends Gerald Culliford of Kingston; they are the top stone importers in the UK and they don’t mess with rubbish.
  • TICK BOX FIVE It is good value. Makalu Silver is not the cheapest, but from Affordable Granite it is good value for a top end quartz. Culliford’s give us a discount, which all gets passed on to you. For the quality, for the wear and tear resistance, for the practicality, for the on-trend good looks, we think our price is good.

We see the results of that box-ticking in the rapidly growing sales figures for this stone. From the first day of stocking it, we have seen Makalu Silver worktops shifting out of the workshop and onto the vans. Many customers have chosen to buy this material for their kitchen worktops
