Our Crazy Granite Worktop Guys are Walking Again
Well, they are doing it again. Only worse. Four of our stonemasons/granite worktop fitters are walking for charity this September.
Granite worktop fitters Dave, Ben, Jon and Scott have done major long distance sponsored walks before, but this year’s effort really eclipses previous “mere marathons”. They are in training for a crazy 100km hike, and we are so proud of them. Read on to see what charity they are supporting and what the walk is going to involve.

The Charity - CALM
Mental health continues to be a prominent theme in news and social media – and rightly so.
We seem to be slowly moving on from the days where we didn’t talk about mental health issues, though British men may still be among the most reticent when it comes to their feelings and anxieties. Whether the causes are purely internal, or due to other health issues, family crises, workplace stresses or bullying, our mental health often suffers and we are beginning to acknowledge it. At the extreme end, life sometimes doesn’t seem worth living. Such feelings are not uncommon and it is so important to have a place to go to express them and get help.
CALM – the CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY – came into being in 2005.
Other suicide prevention charities exist, but CALM is especially aimed at helping younger people through bad times. You can check out their website here.
CALM - The Walk
Dave, Ben, Jon and Scott, four of our best granite worktop fitters, have done the marathon-length Brighton to Eastbourne South Downs hike twice for the Macmillan cancer charity, in 2023 and 2024. That isn’t an easy walk, including as it does a lot of Downland climbing and the full length of the Seven Sisters. This year they are aiming even harder/higher-tougher, and doing a 100km South Downs walk. Madness!
They aim to walk from Eastbourne* to Arundel. Having lived in Sussex and done all sections of the South Downs way between those points, I think they are mad. The Downs offer surprisingly hard, up and down, walking over even short distances – 100km is a crazily tough walk.
You can read more about the challenge on the CALM Ultra Challenge events website here.

CALM - You Can Help
