I am not sure that there is anybody out there who gets as excited as I do about new granite and quartz worktop materials. So it was with great anticipation that I looked forward to Matt Leary’s recent visit to us with the new Radianz quartz worktop samples. Matt works for Gerald Culliford, the UK distributors of Radianz, and is our representative for Radianz products.

We love working with Matt, and with all the guys and girls at Gerald Culliford. We know that they only deal with the best quality natural and engineered stones and, just as important, we know that when our customers go to visit them, they will receive great customer service.

Radianz quartz is perhaps not one of the most well-known brands. In our experience, though, it offers extremely high quality at a reasonable price. It was sold under the Samsung label for a number of years, but is now simply branded as Radianz. It is not anywhere near as well-known as Silestone or Caesarstone, but it is right up with them in innovation, quality and reliability. We think of it as the quiet giant of the quartz world. Radianz is worth knowing about!

Radianz have added some new colours to their range. Their core range comprises some small grained and larger granular quartz materials in monochrome neutrals, earthy greys and taupe.

One of the new grey worktop colours that I think will be particularly popular is Makalu Silver (MS720) As we have mentioned in our previous blog, we are seeing an increase in people looking for a subtler, more delicate sparkle and Makalu Silver’s small close-grained texture, in a light, silvery-grey with tiny mirror chips, really fits the bill. This top will look fabulous on a contemporary high gloss, matt or semi-sheen door. Colour-wise I think it could go with a huge range of doors from white to anthracite.

Other new colours from the Core range are Eiger Slope, Sierra Bedrock and Elbrus Boulder.

Eiger Slope (ES355) has an unusual grain distribution and a lovely warm beige colour. I think this this could look fabulous on a dark wood grain door or a really light off white/ alabaster kitchen cabinet.

The variety of grey tones in the large granular appearance of the Sierra Bedrock, mean that it would tone in with almost any tone of grey from Ammonite to Plummett Farrow & Ball. Lookswise it is in the same space as Silestone’s lovely Alpina White, and competes with it on price.

Elbrus Boulder (EB866) is another interesting grey. A more solid grey than the Sierra Bedrock, it still has an interesting natural stone look which would complement a traditional or modern kitchen alike and is welcome addition to the core range of colours.

Radianz quartz is previously more well known for the Noble range of colours which we have written about before – read more about the whole range here, or here.

The most significant additions come in the Cirrus collection. The Cirrus collection consists of a range of quartz materials that are more marble-look in appearance than the Core and Noble ranges. Denali Cloud and Lucern Lake have been with us for some while, and have already proved popular. The new colours have broadened the range of marble-quartz worktops available. There really is now a Radianz marble work surface for everyone. Good quality marble-look worktops are never going to be the cheapest option, but this range represents exceptional quality and good value for money.

Rio RI177

Rio is bang on trend with its sharp, well-defined vein, imitating a Calacatta Gold type marble. We have noticed more consumers looking for a warmer vein in this type of look and the Rio is a great choice for those wanting to make a statement. This kind of veining works really well in a larger space where one can fully appreciate the striking gold pattern reminiscent of a lightning strike.

The bold contrast of the design works particularly well on a central island with mitred down-stands (sometimes known as waterfall sides) or on a large splash-back. The golden hues look amazing with the current passion for copper and gold kitchen accessories. Slab size 3200 x 1600mm, but currently only available in 20mm thickness. Juniper JU155

Juniper also has a large vein but it is more subtle than Rio. The meandering tendrils of vein are much more feathery, rather like a fine Statuario marble. A very classic look, the Juniper would work equally well teamed with an ultra-minimalist kitchen as it would with a more vintage look. Slab size 3200 x 1600mm. This stone is currently only available in 20mm thickness.

Verona Verde VV254

This new colour is made up of delicious swirls of pattern; a mix of off-whites, beiges and warm browns not any green. It has a small amount of sparkle which adds to its attraction.  The natural pattern and different depths of colour would add a touch of drama to any home. Verona Verde is the type of stone look worktop that is ideal for marrying two contrasting kitchen doors, picking up a lighter colour of a bone white and the darker tones of a door like the “Italian Concrete” from Wren kitchens. It is positioned to compete with similar materials from Cambria of the USA.

Napoli Beige

Other new colours include Orion and Olympus Peak, but one of my personal favourites is the Napoli Beige. I can’t think of another colour quite like this on the market. (Radianz have a knack of doing that- the Noble range which we have previously focussed on in other blogs has never quite been matched by another brand.) Napoli Beige has a really natural quartz-type look: not quite white, grey or cream the delicate lacey pattern has that certain appeal that makes you want to stroke it. This colour could work in almost any room in the house.

The rich opulence of Radianz Quartz Aster

Aster

In case you were thinking that these are all light coloured, and you were really looking for dark worktops for your kitchen, don’t worry! The Cirrus collection contains a fabulous dark quartz surface too. Aster is truly stunning and has enough going on in that it is not going to show every last finger print and smear.

At Affordable Granite we aren’t often huge fans of dark quartz materials – they can look a bit plasticky, and don’t always wear as well as a natural black stone, but this material looks to be a winner.

Sadly, most images online really don’t do Aster justice. When I first saw a picture of the quartz, I didn’t realise that I was looking at the same material! The sample that I have has a good black background with light swirls of greys and tan. The pattern isn’t too large and could work in a small space as well as a big open plan kitchen area. The fact that it has grey and golden-brown tones as well as black mean that it could complement numerous kitchen cabinet options, and blend with natural woods. It could function well in a more traditional style kitchen, as well as with handleless Kashmir and stone cabinet doors in a more minimal contemporary setting. We are definitely seeing more people looking for richer warmer colours in their worktops, and the little bit of sparkle in Aster really gives it a sense of opulence.

So the message is, ‘Well done, Radianz!’ We think that this quartz producer deserves to be far better known than it is in the UK. Radianz is a giant in Asia, and is imported into the UK by Gerald Culliford – the stone wholesaler which is a byword for quality and customer service. If you are planning a new kitchen or worktop makeover, the name Radianz ought to be on your radar.
